Started 400 years ago during the time tea of rich development in Japan and located in the heart of tea culture in Uji, Asahiyaki kiln used clay from Mount Asahi located across from the banks of the Uji river. Towards the eighth generation is when Asahiyaki started production of sencha wares identical to the ones still in production today. Sixteen generation of an unbroken linage with foremost prestige has continued to preserve the tradition both in the making of utensils for matcha as well as sencha. As many of the designs remains unchanged, Asahiyaki provides a rare glimpse into the history of sencha porcelain in Japan.
