Kimura Glass
Over 100 years of History
Yushima, Tokyo
Exquisite craftsman perfecting their skills for centuries, resulting in a collection of glassware that is refined, unique and a true expression of the maker. with very traditional production methods, dominated by hand blown crystal and soda glass, each one meticulously shaped from thin air. The resulting objects are pure, yet very quiet in nature, allowing the drinks contained to play the leading role. Their signature range consists of the crumbled wine glass, created in 1980, inspired by a crumbled piece of paper and in now part of the permanent collection at The Museum of Modern Art in New York. Kimura glass strikes a delicate balance between craft and artistic expression which is truly an art form at the highest echelon.
A selection of exquisite glassware crafted by highly skilled Japanese artisans. Special attention to fine detail is the hallmark of these individually hand blown glasses. Shotoku Glass
Since 1922
Asakusa, Tokyo
First established as a light bulb manufacturer with their own distinctive hand blown method, as time passes they slowly evolved into making fine glassware. Their signature range consists of the ‘Usuhari’ impossibly thin tumblers first designed for beer, currently several iterations growing on from there. The furnace at Shotoku runs continuously for 24 hours a day, with various glass artists take turn to tend to perpetual burning flame. It is constantly fed with scraps of broken glass to be recycled into an endless stream of molten glass ready for shaping.
